Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

Choosing a therapist is a big decision, and it’s normal to have questions before getting started. Here are some answers to common questions about therapy with me. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please reach out — I’d be glad to talk.

How can Therapy help me?

Therapy provides a safe space to sort through challenges, gain fresh perspective, and build tools that really work in daily life. Some of the reasons people come to therapy include:

● Anxiety, panic, or constant stress
● Depression or low self-worth
● Past trauma, grief, or loss
● Relationship or communication struggles
● Life transitions, identity, or purpose questions

Together, we’ll explore what’s weighing on you and find strategies that help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your next steps.

Do I really need therapy?

Many people who start therapy are already strong and resourceful — they’ve often gotten through a lot on their own. Coming to therapy doesn’t mean you “can’t cope.” It means you’re ready for more support, more tools, and a chance to create lasting change with guidance instead of carrying everything by yourself.

What is therapy like at Luminous Minds?

No two people’s journeys look the same, but here’s what you can expect:

Collaboration: We’ll set goals together and adjust as you grow.
Consistency: Most clients benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions to keep momentum.
Practical Tools: I often suggest strategies to practice between sessions so the progress you make in therapy carries into your daily life.

Some clients come for a specific issue and work short-term; others stay longer to dive deeper into patterns and personal growth.

Do you prescribe medication?

No — I provide talk therapy, not medication. For some people, therapy alone is enough. For others, combining therapy with medication (prescribed by a physician or psychiatrist) can be most effective. If we think medication might help, I’ll encourage you to talk with your doctor and, if helpful, collaborate with them to support your care.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider, which means I don’t bill insurance directly. Many clients are still able to get partial reimbursement. If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt) to submit to your insurance company.

Helpful questions to ask your provider:

● Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
● What’s my deductible, and has it been met?
● What percentage is reimbursed for CPT code 90837 (individual therapy, 50 minutes)?
● How do I submit claims?

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is the foundation of therapy — your privacy matters. What we discuss stays between us, with a few legal exceptions:

● If there’s risk of harm to yourself or others
● Suspected abuse/neglect of children or vulnerable adults
● A court order requiring release of records

Otherwise, what you share is private, protected, and treated with the utmost care.

What’s the first step?

The best way to begin is by scheduling a free 20-minute consultation. We’ll talk about what you’re looking for, I’ll answer your questions, and together we’ll see if it feels like a good fit.
